PROWESS OF LANGUAGE
MARIVIC D. GOMEZ
How is language important to us? How powerful can it get?
Language is a way of communication or having a conversation with an individual or a group. A bridge that links people and a glue that keeps us connected even from afar. It is a formidable weapon and a great defense in life, one of the most significant elements in our culture. It has the ability to define who and what we are, an improper introduction of ourselves. For example, hearing how someone talks, what accent he has, and how he articulates his words, we can immediately reckon what race he belongs to and where he came from.
Language could appear in different forms, either spoken or written, through personal conversations or letters, via call or text message.
Imagine life without language, no communication, no conversations, nothing at all. Zero progression, zero development. We’ll never get to where we are right now. Never will works of literature exist. Never will we be free from the colonists who once crippled our fellow Filipino men. Never will the story of our valorous heroes be told.
Without language where can we be? But that it is why it’s here. Here to fortify our inabilities and weaknesses. A light that unveils the bravery concealed in all of us, our strength.
