INTERVENTION FOR NON-NUMERATES
SALLY S. CALALANG
Intervention efforts for non-numerates at the Grade 7 level should focus on different concepts consisting of activities and exercises that would guide them accordingly.
Teachers should have an action plan that aims for student development when it comes to learning mathematics. Pupils should be able to have the mastery of the addition, subtraction and multiplication table and different mathematical skills.
Students who can master different skills can have a greater chance in winning competitions.
There should also be programs that aim to raise the proficiency level of students. Teacher’s competence should be enhanced, as well as students’achievements.
Instructional materials should also be made available to master the Four Fundamental Operations. There should be monitoring and implementation of the project in all grade levels, to be evaluated at the end of the year.
Teachers should also help students overcome learning difficulties in Math. To minimize the learning difficulties of students, there should be cooperative learning wherein students are given a problem a week to solve.
Testing should also be done for Zero Non- Numerates for all Grade Levels. Encourage teachers to conduct remedial classes for Slow Learners in Math the whole year r ound.
A service training in Mathematics can also help, which involves activities/training given to teachers in different levels. This program aims to uplift the skills of the teachers in Mathematics.
To improve structures in teaching for a more conducive learning environment, schools should maintain and encourage utilization of Math Rooms and Park gardens.
