ACCEPTING CHANGE, EMBRACING NEW

-

ELIEZER R. RAMIREZ

Change is inevitable. With the technological advancement brought by this fast changing world, a teacher should learn to acceptit with arms wide open.

An important issue that has started to gain popularity is the issue of teachers learning new technology that is now available. There are many websites and companies dedicated to getting schools to gain advancement in technology. Most schools today are using the same tools that have been around since the beginning of time. There is no obligation for teachers right now to learn about technology and how it can improve student’s learning and academics. We have been blessed to have the internet, and many new digital machines that can further learning. There are high hopes for the future of our schools to take advantage of this growth and use them regularly in the classroom. The generations of students today are growing up using the computer. It is appropriate and a must that teacher’s use computer and internet in school. Not only does it provide too much information that is useful for pupil’s education, but helps that person later in life. Eventually most things are going to be done over the internet and digitally advance tools, so as teachers we should learn to adapt the new technology.

One of the biggest factors why a teacher resists innovation is fear. They say that fear is always associated with innovations maybe because they were used to the traditional way of teaching. Sometimes teachers tend to make themselves trapped inside the box which stagnate them from learning new things and new development. But come to think of it, how are we going to grow professionally if we let fear conquer our body. We are teachers, we are born and raise to be flexible at all times so that we can fully share ourselves with our pupils without hesitations.

Teaching is a lifelong process. It involves the learning of new strategies, philosophies, methods as well as embracing new technological advancement. We can learn from different sources. We can learn from colleagues, parents, and even with the students themselves. As to address the needs of the students of the new generation, we should be equipped with the different knowledge and skills which are needed to be called as 21st century teachers.
