THE SYSTEM APPROACH IN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
ANNABELLE B. SINGIAN
System approach in education is a method of examining an educational system or program which is either formal or non-formal. In this process, the educational system or program is viewed not as an isolated entity with independent parts but rather as an organized process by which a society pursues education as an organic group of elements with interacting subsystems within the educational system or program. Through the systems approach, a dynamic process of analyzing all the interacting elements or subsystems of the educational system or process is made possible. The strategy of diagnosis is to concentrate upon several critical indicators and relationships within the system and between the system and its environment.
Thus, a basic belief in the entire concept of applying in the system analysis approach to educational environment is that if the system concept is to be helpful to educators it is important to recognize that school exists primarily to facilitate goals related to the students learning. If education is regarded as a system, then, it follows that its problems neither exist nor can be solved in isolation from the total system.
Today, the very serious problems in education in public sector are lack of classrooms nationwide, the number of students in a class and the time allotment of study period for the day. In previous time, class has a minimum of 25 students with only the necessary subjects to undertake and programmed for the whole day sessions. Today, as we observed, classes are overpopulated and mostly half-day in certain areas. No doubt, quality of education deteriorated. Remedial measures should be undertaken before a total collapse of educational system will occur.
