PATRIOTISM
MARIA RITA O. CATINGCO
So what does it take to be patriotic in this generation of individuals seemingly impatient with the past? How about pondering upon these values of patriotism.
Patience - It was the first test of all; The first test for self - governance. I hope that we have learned from our past that if we have to endure the pain of today to wish the gain of tomorrow
Acceptance - We love this country enough not to conceal its imperfections. Globalization has thought us to be tolerant and accept our position in history. we are a Diverse nation with diverse people with diverse interests and fundamentals. And our acceptance of this values of our race always relevant in the continuous tectonic shifting of national identities.
Trustworthiness - The Philippines is lucky enough to have gone through the ebbs and flows of independence. Perhaps there is only one thing that still remains us tested for the Filipinos, that is to trust that all of us, despite differences can unite and overcome.
Respectfulness - Do we even know the lyrics of our national anthem; Can we even sing it with fervour and valor or will you just leave it to the MP3 playing?
Industry- It is no secret that this is our saving grace. Industry has sustained us. With discipline that we may all be lacking as of the moment, our condition will soon be relatively alleviated.
Obedience - As previously pointed out, Discipline is what we are lacking so it’s high time that we give obedience a second chance.
Thaw – The Philippines bears an ever-changing culture. It can either change for the better or change for the worse; but worry not, flexibility is one of our most prized skill. We are mobile; inching slowly to a better tomorrow
Idealism - We are known “Creatives”. However, our achievements in both the arts and sciences have been inchoate since, one time or the other, Idealism is out of the game plan.
Selflessness - Now that the Philippines is faced with a plethora of threats on its stability as a free nation, may find it on our hearts, just like what all great men of the Philippines, have done to emancipate us from the shackles of poverty.
Magnificence - With our colourful culture and luscious nature, it is a know fact that the country is absolutely magnificent from the creative and hardworking nature of our people, to the abundant species of animals that can only be found here. With a little discipline and unity, we can restore the booming economy.
