This year’s celebration highlights the importance of community gardening. This aims to protect the environment by promoting organic community farming and to maintain the health of people, residents should start planting nutritious fruits and vegetables in any open space or in vacant lots.

Most Gulayan sa Barnagay programs utilize the use of home organic waste as fertilizer as well as other organic means of cultivation to grow vegetables and even fruits. The vegetable farming program also aims to make vegetables available and accessible in the community level for local residents.

Nutrition Month is a yearly campaign held every July to create greater awareness among Filipinos on the importance of nutrition. Presidential Decree 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines mandates the National Nutrition Council to lead and coordinate the nationwide campaign.
