TEACHERS AND ELECTIONS
JOSE RANDY M. FUERTES
The just recently held local election was a success according to the news. There are a few reported election related violence compared to the previous elections. Though, some simple election offences committed by the candidates and their die hard supporters like vote buying, mudslinging and other black propagandas were used as tactics to ensure victory.
There were also some changes on who will serve as Board of Election Inspectors. Teachers who are previously serve as BEI are now in voluntary basis and people from other sector are employed.
The election process was not complicated, counting of votes is not exhaustive because only a maximum of 8 candidates to read per ballot. The complicated part is the preparation of report. There are categories of voters to be segregated like the male and female voters, number of male and female voters with disability, the number of male and female voters who actually voted and many more which only a trained person will effectively execute.
As a teacher, making such complicated reports is basically a part of our job, we are processing at least three hundred students per grading period, submitting reports and forms that reflects each students performances. A teacher is very keen to details because there is no room for error in appreciating the student performances. Being a teacher, I could proudly say that we are still the best people to serve as Board of Election Inspector…
