Fernandino students promote disaster resilience through poster making
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO---Thirty-three students from both public and private schools in the City of San Fernando called for disaster resilience through a poster making during the Sining Kahandaan Year 5 SchoolBased Disaster Preparedness Assembly (poster making contest) on Tuesday at the Benigno S. The said activity is held in line with the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month and spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRRMO).
The competition was composed of three categories: elementary division; junior high school division; and senior high school division, where the students showcased their skills and creativity in making a poster that symbolizes courage and strength in overcoming natural disasters.
In his opening remarks, CDRRM Officer Raymond Del Rosario said the aim of the activity is to promote disaster preparedness among the youth and to increase their awareness on the possible effects of disasters, if not prepared.
“For five years we have been conducting this as part of the awareness program for students. It’s one way to make them ready for any disaster,” Del Rosario said.
In an interview, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago stressed the importance of inculcating the youth on disaster preparedness. He believes that at their young age, they should know the proper ways or decorum during disasters to avoid casualties and to protect themselves and their families.
“Nothing beats preparedness of every Fernandino,” Santiago said.
Meanwhile, the winners for Elementary Division category were Erica Lady Ceira De Ocera of San Fernando Elementary School (first place), Jeilo Nino
