ICT CRITICAL IN EFFECTIVE TEACHING

- IRISH ROMA R. YANGA

Teachers are mandated to devise various teaching methods that instill creativity and critical thinking among learners through Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

That they must realize the importance of integrating ICT in both teaching and governance for the delivery of quality, accessible, and relevant basic education for their students.

Through ICT innovations, time will come when schoolchildren no longer have to carry books in their backpacks.

Because of ICT innovations, education can be more accessible and convenient for our young learners.

There are a lot of technologies today that we can avail. There are so many gadgets, which make us do so many things and achieve so many goals and projects all at the same time.

It can be a multi task undertaking as far as teaching is concern..

Since DepEd is a "mammoth institution", ICT can help the department in the fasttracking of processes in the department with thousands of teaching and non-teaching personnel.

In fact, through ICT, the department can overhaul, if not improve, the information system of the entire department—the financial management system, accounting system, budget system, and all other processes.

Definitely, that will redound to benefit the teaching-learning process as well. Therefore, it is a must, that non-tech-savvy teachers and school personnel handling ICT concerns must undergo appropriate training.

Each and every personnel, including the school head, must have to upgrade their skills and knowledge in ICT because “capacity building” of teachers and personnel is a big thing.

In a nutshell, it is critical if not indispensable element in effective teachinglearning situations.

We will surely go back to the dark ages if we ignore ICT.

We need to harness its usability to the fullest.

We have to remember that ICT is primarily a tool which helps us in making decisions, in understanding the world that we live in, and in finding solutions.

At the end of the day, it is still us—the users of technology—who are responsible for making things happen.

Aptly, in our hands, the front liners, lies the fate of the young learners-the millennial.

We cannot afford to be callouses in this regard..

A huge chunk of our national budget have been allocated for our institution and given us access to these tools-right in our finger tips. We are in threshold of ICT era and in par with our Asian neighbors in this domain. Because of ICT, we cannot only connect with the rest of the world and become globally competitive which is, as mentors and administrators, our core objective. The gist of our mandate.
