To avoid damaged, flooded road

SAN SIMON - The local government here has set an alternate route for motorists to avoid the flooded and deteriorated road in the portion of MacArthur Highway in this town.

Motorists coming from Apalit, Macabebe and Masantol towns who plan to use the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) may take the right turn in Tulaoc junction going to the Barangay Sto. Niño provincial road, turn left to Galang Road in Barangay Sta. Monica, and turn right going to the NLEx toll plaza.

Motorists who will take Quezon Road going to Arayat, San Luis, Mexico, Candaba and Sta. Ana towns may also take the same detour but must turn left from the Galang Road and exit to Quezon Road.

The alternate traffic route is advised for all motorists, especially light vehicles, who wish to avoid the 150 meter-road in the CDCP junction which is currently flooded and heavily damaged with large potholes that emerged following continuous heavy rains.

The MacArthur Highway portion here, particularly the CDCP junction, is considered a major thoroughfare going to the City of San Fernando northbound, Bulacan province southbound, and other areas in the province.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has posted directional signages throughout the alternate route to guide motorists.

Earlier, motorists have complained about the badly deteriorated road stretch which poses danger

to them, especially those unfamiliar with the area, and motorcyclists who may meet accidents due to lack of hazard signs along the thoroughfare.

The local government has already posted traffic enforcers in the area to set order on the traffic situation, as well as provide assistance to motorists.

Meanwhile, Mayor Leonora Wong is yet to make a request before the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to immediately conduct rehabilitation activity in the badly deteriorated major thoroughfare.

Wong said that the DPWH is the agency responsible for the maintenance of the MacArthur Highway but the local government may take actions should the said agency fail to immediately address the situation.
