Fernandinas address weight issues through Zumba
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— The City Government of San Fernando, through its Nutrition Council, helped Fernandinas solve their underweight and obesity problems through the annual Inter-Barangay Zumbaers Biggest Loser competition. Now on its third season, 12 groups from different barangays in the city participated in a Zumba showdown anchored on the theme “Ugaliing Magtanim, Sapat na Nutrisyon Aanihin.”
This was held on July 25 at Robinsons Starmills in line with the celebration of Nutrition Month 2018.
Aside from the performance rate, the weight change in the participants also served as a criteria for judging.
“Their weights were taken one week before the competition since some must lose weight and others gain weight. The points earned by each group depended on how many members had positive changes in their weights,” explained Gender and Development Focal Person and Nutrition Council member Amalia Catacutan.
This year’s winners were the groups from Northville as champion, Barangay San Pedro Cutud as second placer and Sta. Teresita as third placer.
Most energetic awards were given to Nicaela Luste of Barangay Sto. Niño, Mary Grace Basilio and Sharlene David of Barangay Del Pilar, Joan Dimatulac of Barangay Dela Paz Norte and Jackielyn Zapanta of Northville.
Meanwhile, selected participants also tested their wits in the “pautakan” inter-cluster challenge wherein facts about food and nutrition were asked.
In an interview, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago lauded the participants for their efforts to achieve their desired weight thus become physically healthy.
“The City of San Fernando will continue to advocate health and wellness programs for every Fernandino of all ages because we believe that healthy people are the key to a wealthy community,” he said.— CSF-CIO
