WHAT MAKES A GOOD MATH TEACHER

What are the traits of a good Math teacher? First, it is important that teachers should know the goals, aims and objectives of Mathematics teaching: Know where you are bound to.
He or she should also have specialization for majors/ minors in mathematics, which would be an asset.
A good Math teacher should also have a pleasant personality, good disposition and should possess a scientific attitude. He or she should have the ability to think logically and speak clearly and intelligently; should have patience, respect and love for the students to show fairness and impartiality.
It would also do well if a Math teacher knows the subject matter thoroughly; is serious in accomplishing her/ his objectives; continues to study and learn; is interested in his professional growth; and updates and upgrades herself/ himself.
Inteaching,heorsheshouldmakeagoodplanandorganizesher/his lessons well; is prepared for the lesson; does things orderly and systematically; begins and ends on time; and has definite aims to accomplish every day.
He or she also uses a variety of teaching methods; uses different techniques in teaching and a variety of modes of instruction; uses varying devices and supplementary materials in teaching; and conducts the class in an easy and natural manner.
It is also important to check errors and do remedial instruction; give drills and reviews as part of her/his daily lesson; give motivational techniques before presenting a new lesson; give exercises and evaluation materials to test the achievement and performance of the learners; allow creative expression and freedom in communication; and allow inquiry, reflective thinking and creative expressions.
A good Math teacher makes sure to give varying activities that allows for the development of students skills and interests; gives assignment that are clear and understood by the students; adheres to student-centered approach and recognizes individual differences of students; and fosters concretization of abstract concepts.
