HAU-SHTM receives accolade for tourism education
The Holy Angel University (HAU) bested other hospitality and tourism universities and schools in the country as its School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) received the Rotary Club of Manila’s Award of Distinction for the Education Category, for its contribution to the advancement of Philippine tourism.
The said citation was received by HAU’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Archbishop Emeritus Paciano B. Aniceto, DD. and University President Dr. Luis Maria Calingo. They were represented by SHTM Dean Dr. Gertrude Tuazon and SHTM Program Chairperson Tyron Yap during the 14th Tourism Awards of the Rotary Club of Manila held at the New World Hotel.
HAU-SHTM was granted the award for its commitment to provide the students with broad-based views of the service management, hospitality, and tourism disciplines based on the underlying concept of quality service management in its aspiration to become a center of excellence in hospitality and tourism management education in Asia-Pacific region.
Every year, the Rotary Club of Manila selects trailblazers and innovators from different sectors who spearhead and lead tourism development in their respective community.
Aside from HAU-SHTM, other awardees were Philippine Airlines President Jaime J. Bautista (Hall of Fame Tourism Awards Category), Clark Development Corporation President Noel Flores Manankil (Ecozone Tourism Category) Manila Hotel Executive Vice President Enrique Y. Yap, Jr. (Heritage Hotel Tourism Category), Ayala Hotels & Resorts President Miguel Alexis Legaspi (Hotel Development Tourism Category), Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Romualdez Marcos (Cultural and Community Tourism Category), Manila Bulletin Columnist Jullie Yap-Daza (Print Media Category), Chef Boy Logro (Filipino Culinary Tourism Category), Diamond Hotel General Manager Vanessa Suatengco (Hotel Management Tourism Category), Infinity Tower Suites Chairman Joaquin C. Rodriguez (Condo-tel Tourism Category), Jose Roilo Golez (Philippine Tourism Advocacy Category), and Infinite Travel and Tours President Rene Lazaro (Outbound Travel Tourism Category).
HAU-SHTM is currently waiting for the result of its international accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration. If granted, the School will be the first in the Philippines to receive the said accreditation.
