Guv convenes barangay officials’ summit
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda yesterday met with some 4,040 barangay kagawads and punong barangays at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here for the multi-hazard disaster summit.
The event organized by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council was aimed at updating barangay units on their role in disaster preparedness, response and mitigation.
The event was also a venue to discuss Pampanga’s disaster response and mitigation plans as well as address issues in multi-hazard response. This is particularly relevant to Pampanga as it deals with hazards like floods, storm surges, landslides and earthquakes.
“This summit aims to help our barangay and municipal leaders to better understand multi-hazard concerns and issues,” Governor Pineda said.
Governor Pineda also encouraged purok leaders to identify all their residents to determine how many children,
senior citizens and bed-ridden need priority during rescue operations, in case a calamity occurs.
During the assembly, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Office head Angelina Blanco also stressed on the roles and functions of the barangay leaders on peace and order, disaster management and information dissemination.
