ANA LIZA P. BALINGIT

One of the main feature of the K-12is the delivery of the lesson through contextualization. The curriculum shall be flexible enough to enable and allow schools to LOCALIZE, and enhance [the curriculum based on their respective educational and social contexts

Delivery of facts and dates as part of teaching Araling Panlipunan subject resemble a culture of straight forward teaching ,putting food into the mouth of a child and help him chew. This kind of set-up would have exposed limited range of learning, an unproductive delivery of the teaching and learning process.

Learning in the context of life experience, or relating, is the kind of contextual learning that typically occurs with very young children. With adult learners, however, providing this meaningful context for learning becomes more difficult. The curriculum that attempts to place learning in the context of life experiences must, first, call the student’s attention to everyday sights, events, and conditions. It must then relate those everyday situations to new information to be absorbed or a problem to be solved

Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 Make education learner-oriented a responsive to the needs, cognitive and cultural capacity, the circumstances and diversity of learners, schools and communities through the appropriate languages of teaching and learning, including mother tongue as a learning r esour ces.

The DepEd shall adhere to the following standards and principles in developing the enhanced basic education curriculum:

It is use the spiral progression approach to ensure mastery … flexible enough to enable and allow schools to localize, indigenize and enhance the same based on their respective educational and social contexts. The production and development of locally produced teaching materials shall be encouraged and approval of these materials shall devolve to the regional and division education units.

Contextualization refers to the educational process of relating the curriculum to a particular setting, situation or area of application to make the competencies relevant, meaningful, and useful to all learners.

Teacher should know how to translate or transform topic or lesson into simpler and specific with accordance to the locality

Contextualizing and indigenizing lesson in AP would make every lesson interesting. Some lessons in AP that explains facts and dates would be better to deliver if the teacher uses contextualized materials.

These are ways to enrich the curriculum, to further enhance the curriculum according to the type and needs of learner. Understanding further what are types of learners you have inside the classroom and give what is due for them to achieve quality performance.
