CATALYSTS OF POSITIVE TRANSFORMATION
MARCY M. BARIN
The Department of Education had underscored the importance of collective efforts in reaching all learners, especially those in the marginalized sector.
The responsibility of educating our citizens is not just the responsibility of DepEd alone. It is for this reason that DepEd is working with private organizations, so that more students can be given a chance to have education.
Other partners have endeavored to become catalysts of positive transformation by putting up community learning centers that equip lifelong learners with academic excellence and biblical values.
We are living in very interesting times where we need learners who have excellent academic skills and biblical values who can contribute truly in nation-building.
The more equipped lifelong learners there are, the more productive this country can be.
Students now should be equipped with life skills, which they could acquire through 21st century learning. This involves more than information literacy, or memorizing facts and recalling details, but acquiring the necessary skills.
Twenty-first century learning offers an opportunity to synergize content and skills, using the past as a baseline for the future.
Today’s world offers a very different experience in education, one that leads to the acquisition of 21st century skills that will allow students to function, learn and adapt throughout life in this post-modern world.
Creating 21st century classrooms, schools and districts is no small order, but it is being done across the nation – and that is why students are now getting the quality education they’ll need in the future.
Schools are now moving beyond basic competency to promoting understanding of academic content at much higher levels by weaving 21st century interdisciplinary themes into curriculum.
