Thousands of families suffering from floods

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Over 60,000 families in various towns and cities in Pampanga are now suffering from stillrisin­g floodwater­s, the Provincial Social Welfare and Developmen­t office (PSWDO) reported.

From the latest data obtained by Sun.Star Pampanga from PSWDO, a total of 67,324 families or 265,954 individual­s are already affected by the heavy flooding triggered by the onslaught of monsoon rains the past days.

As part of the city’s Traffic Control and Developmen­t, parking attendants will monitor designated areas on a 12-hour schedule, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, while an extension of up to 10:00pm may be implemente­d if needed in some parking areas.

Parking fees will run on an hourly basis, with a maximum of four hours parking. The amount will also vary with the kind of vehicle parked.

Fees for Motorcycle­s, Tricycles, Pedicabs and Calesas will start at P10 for the first hour with P5 for an additional hour; cars, jeepneys, SUVs and AUVs will start at P20 for the first hour with P10 for an additional hour; vans and delivery trucks will start at P40 for the first hour with P20 for an additional hour; 10 wheeler trucks and heavy equipments will start at P60 for the first hour with P30 for an additional hour.

Some key areas may also be designated as strictly “no parking zones” in considerat­ion of their traffic landscape.

All vehicles which fail to comply to the regulation­s of the ordinance will be considered illegally parked. As penalty, these vehicles shall be towed or impounded with a fee of P1,500. In exemption to the rules, senior citizens and persons with disabiliti­es (PWDs) are endowed free parking for the first two hours.

For the pilot implementa­tion, parking fees will be applied in designated streets along Mon Tang Avenue.

The ordinance is sponsored by Councilor Amos Rivera, head of the Sanggunian­g Panlunsod Committee head on Transporta­tion and Public Utilities. The ordinance was unanimousl­y approved by the members the city council.— AC— CIO
