SCENARIO-BASED LEARNING
AILYN B. MANULID
Learning is a continuous process which makes each pupil engage in an intellectual discussion and activities that makes their brain functions and acquire competencies. It is dynamic and it can be hastened depending on the kind of learners we are dealing with. Because of this, teachers continue to strive and dwell into different academic trainings to enhance their skill in t eachi ng.
One of the ways to improve teaching is to provide relevant lessons to the pupils by integrating scenario-based learning. It is an innovative approach where the teacher conceptualizes activities in an environment that are famil-
iar with the learners. With this, pupils are given the opportunity to think about the scenario before providing solution to the given pr obl em.
Scenario-based learning focuses more on the learning environment or the situation presented to the pupils. The arrangement of the place where these learners will dwell themselves in a situation are all conceptualized by the teacher. This academic journey promotes collaboration among the pupils who are working in a group. Each of them is given a chance to work because everyone knows the scenario or the situation being discussed.
Cognitively, they dig deeper down their memory lane to take out the previous concepts they have learned from the past few days. It can also be based on scenario that they are experiencing outside the school premises. As they analyze the situation, they have a better chance of having a long retention of learning for they are able to apply in the scenario what competencies they have acquired in the lesson presented.
Lastly, using these scenarios is what makes the lesson relevant. It gives the learners the opportunity to apply their learnings in their real-life situations. This will make them appreciate the beauty and importance of going to school to learn, because they already know that what they are not doing in school are all worth it.
