EDUCATION FOR BETTER COMMUNITY LIFE

- KRISTINE C. PUNLA

There was a Catholic priest assigned in our parish who not only once, twice or thrice I heard him say, “Send your children to school until they finish at least secondary education.” The church head usually get annoyed when simple instructions or rules were not being followed by old parishioners. It is in this regard that he repeatedly inserting in his homilies to let children go further studies; assuming oldies did not obtain proper education, the reason why they were not able to follow directions or abide to parish laws.

Take a look at the cinema at the slum area. It is topsy-turvy, noisy, unruly residents. Troubles all of a sudden breaks up for no valid reasons at all because of drinking sessions. People seem to be contented not aspiring for better living, no ambitions at all. They enjoy a day-to-day living as the way they do and nothing more. Young teens and old are prone to vices like drinking liquor, illegal drug using or drug pushing that oftentimes there victims resort to rape, stealing and killings.

Why is a slum place opposite to a subdivision where most constituents enjoy a decent, progressive and better life? It is because they are so unlucky to attain education that can make their life better. It is really the responsibility of parents to let their kids finish better education to become better citizens in a community.
