UTILIZATION OF VIDEO-BASED INSTRUCTION IN SCIENCE I AMONG PUBLIC SCHOOL IN CLUSTER IV

This study looked into the utilization of video lessons in teaching Science I among the public high schools in Cluster IV, Tarlac Province during the school year 2011-2012.
The utilization of video lessons was determined in terms of adequacy and functionality of video devices; frequency and competence of teachers in the utilization of video devices, extent of the use of video lessons and the problems encountered in the utilization of video lessons for instructional purposes.
The respondents of this study were the Science I teachers and 16 principals coming from the 16 public high schools under cluster IV located Bamban, Capas, Concepcion and La Paz.
The following are the conclusions drawn from the findings of the study: (1) There is an inadequate number of video devices; (2) Although limited in number, the video devices are functional; (3) The teachers are utilizing video devices weekly; (4) The science teachers moderately competent in using video devices in teaching; (5) The major problem in the use of video-based instruction was lack of video devices; (6) Teachers need video-based seminars and (7) The extent of the utilization of video lessons in Science classes is moderately met.
In view of the findings and conclusions of the study, the following are recommended: (1) The inadequacy of video devices must be addressed seriously; (2) Proper handling of video devices must be done; (3) Principals must observe Science classes regularly; (4) The teachers who are competent in using video devices must train those who are not knowledgeable; (5) Observe strong collaboration among stakeholders to address the challenges in line with video-based instruction; (6) Administrators must provide video-based trainings and (7) Maximize the use of video lessons in teaching.
