PERKS OF BEING A PUBLIC TEACHER

-

MARIE CRIS A. LOPEZ

Teaching noble job.

A teacher is not just someone who teaches a particular subject, because they are also the second parents of their students. They don’t just teach for there are still a lot of things that they must do. And in this changing world, they must also adapt to their surroundings and update their knowledge every now and then so that they will be able to share more of it to their students.

At present, teachers are adapting to the new system that the department have. They were tasked to do a lot of things including piles of paper works, which sometimes lead to stress and depression to some of them. They must document everything that they are doing from the time that they enter the school premises until they go home. But it goes extended especially when there are some students that they must visit at home to check what was happening with the student and if their parents are aware of what the child had done, like committing consecutive and/ or repetitive absences, cutting classes, failing grades and/ or if they had done something wrong.

Making some home visitations is not a problem, because it makes teacher be enlightened of the child’s family background. But what makes them conscious and cautious is that, they need to document it, take a picture, and make them sign a home visitation form. Teachers are always observed in their classroom as well. Noting the way that they deliver the lesson and how students respond. It makes teacher be competitive and cautious of their actions, but it also makes them be pressured.

Teachers prepare a lot of things, their lesson plans, instructional materials, evaluation tool and many more. They also need to prepare a lot of evidences and means of verification when a particular school year come to an end. This will be a way of checking how they function for the whole school year and a basis of their performance bonus. A failure to meet these competencies makes them feel ill, as if like they did not do anything. Where in fact, they have done all things that they can in order to teach the young generations.

This is not to burst out anger or anger against the education system. Most of the teachers love their job to the point that they were so much engage and had married teaching. They cherish every moment that they were able to make students or even just a single student learn something new, and they enjoy touching lives and souls and make more students gain knowledge on different things. They were just hoping that the education system will lessen the paper works that needs to be accomplished. For they are teachers who wants to focus on the teaching itself.

Well, whatever happens, teachers will continue to adapt to their surroundings for they are flexible. The joy of seeing a single soul learn new knowledge makes their heart burn with passion. Nonetheless, what they are doing is very noble.
