YOUTH AS CATALYSTS OF CHANGE IN SAVING MOTHER EARTH

-

ROSE ANN M. ANICIETE

God created this world like a paradise. We are so blessed that He gave it to us for FREE. Aside from the gift of life, He provided us with all the necessities so that we can enjoy our living. This is how our Creator loves us; without expecting anything in return, He loves us unconditionally. Everything was perfect, no hassles, no hardships and no harm. However, because of man’s tendency of having no satisfaction, destruction of all these wonderful creations is happening uncontrollably. If this will continue to happen, how will the next generation live?

They say that if we want change we must do it now. Just like the common line says, “Prevention is better than cure”. We have to do something right now, not tomorrow, not later nor soon. Our MOTHER EARTH is only ONE… if we lose it, nothing can replace it. Adults nowadays had experienced a lot, the ups and downs of life and even the worst that life could bring. Living in this challenging world is not so easy and if we do not know how to handle these positively, our tendency is to give up.

With everything that is happening now. We face many calamities, causing death and destruction of resources. We believe that these are all beyond our control since they happen unexpectedly. However, if we can really analyze why these troubles are happening then we can probably lessen if not totally stop all these.

It is true that modern technology shows progress, however, we have to be aware that a lot of these developments are causing bad effect to our environment. Nothing is actually wrong in adapting modernization, however, if we do not know how to balance the used of these improvements, we will suffer.

Youth are said to be the hope of the nation, thus, if we really want change, it should start with them. Their minds are still absorbent and they can easily learn when things are presented to them. With proper guidance and teaching, we can make them realize how important it is to take good care of our environment. They are expected to be the next leaders and the preservation of our natural wealth is for them and for their future families. If we can teach them the right things to do now, then, they will be the catalysts of change.
