Spokes challenges youth on building a corrupt-free PH through education

-

IBA, Zambales— Presidential Spokesperson Harry L. Roque called on the Filipino youth to take on the challenge of making the country corrupt-free and make good on a promise to make it one of the most progressive in the world.

“Malaki po ang katungkulan ninyong mga iskolar ng bayan. Tama na po siguro kung sa pang-arawaraw na buhay natin hindi po tayo maging kaparte ng sistema ng korapsyon, sa arawaraw na buhay natin hindi tayo lalabag sa mga batas, gagawin natin ang ating mga obligasyon bilang mabuting mamamayan ng ating bayan. (As scholars, you have an enormous responsibility. But it’s more than enough that in our everyday lives we do not engage ourselves in the system of corruption, that we do not violate the law, that we would do our share as responsible citizens.),” Roque said during the grand launch of President Ramon Magsaysay State University which was formerly known as Ramon Magsaysay Technological University.

The cabinet official underscored the benefits derived from the passage of the Republic Act 10931 otherwise known as “The Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education” particularly on free tuition and miscellaneous fees in all state and local universities and colleges.

He remarked that the rationale behind the free education was because the government is investing in human capital.

Part of these investments include the Php60,000 per year educational subsidy given to students who are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and enrolled in private institutions.

Training scholarships are also made available in all training centers accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Roque likewise announced that as part of ensuring students get the enough nutrition needed to perform well in school, President Rodrigo Duterte already signed into law a feeding program for kindergarten and grade school pupils enrolled in public schools nationwide. Under this program, beneficiaries will be provided free nutritious lunch in school.

To increase accessibility to education, the government is leaning towards providing free internet access in all parts of the country.

All these were fruits of all the reforms initiated by the administration for the benefit of all Filipinos, with much more if only corruption could be eliminated.

“Kung mababawasan ang korapsyon, mas maraming benepisyong makukuha ang sambayanang Pilipino. (If only corruption is abated, Filipinos would benefit even more.),” Roque ended.— Carmela Jane F. Villar/PIA-3
