HOME READING LESSENS THE NON-READERS

-

RONNIE C. MENDOZA

One of the problems of the public school teachers is the increasing number of the non-readers. Teachers were blamed for the poor performance of the pupils much more for the non-readers. Teacher alone cannot educate completely the pupils.

A pupil cannot be a completely educated man unless he reads at home, while instruction in the classroom under the guidance of teachers follows which is as useful as what he gets from his home training.

In school, the information imparted by the teachers should be an incentive to wider reading on the pertinent subject at home.

The habit of reading once formed , is a great asset to the student and will make him a full man. Let us develop the love for reading to our pupils, encourage them also continue reading at home. Reading at home makes a man whose education does not end within the portals of classroom. He is a man whose outlook in life grows, whose interests are wide, whose horizon is broad. He is a man whom is abreast of the progress of the world and therefore, is also a progressive man.

Teachers and parents therefore encourage pupils to read books. What the pupils failed to assimilate in the classroom, they should acquire through their own efforts. Home reading is the key that unlocks for them the door of greater and better opportunities.
