According to C. S. Lewis – “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make a man a more clever evil.” An eye-opening quote by a famous British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, philosopher, literary critic, essayist, lay theologian, broadcaster, lecturer, and Christian apologist. Values is about a person’s principles or standards of behavior, one’s judgement of what is important in life. Talking about the school set-up and referring this topic that definitely has a great impact not only in the life of a person in one aspect but as a whole, values is the ultimate root that would make this place that we live in a better one. That is why it is essential to teach values with integration in all subject and not only limit to one. Learners starting from the preparatory level up to the highest level of schooling should be consistently reminded of the values that can be put into practical use which is very helpful in dealing with other people as they explore the world and be able to treat the people around them with respect.

Being a teacher dealing with the millennials day in and day out, I always have a first hand experience of the attitudes and behavior of students nowadays. I tend to ask myself “Is this the world where we live now? Are these the students that we teach who are supposed to be showing respect, good manners and right conduct to the elderly and to their fellow students?” A lot of things have changed. But one thing should not change and that is the values of every student that should be learned and integrated in all subject so that when it is consistently taught, even they would help their fellow students of the right attitude in a situation or in dealing with other people.

When students would say “po” and “opo”, when students would help you carry your things, when students would be quiet because of your presence, when students would give way when they see you walking right through, when students would kiss your hand and we say “bless you”, then values integration can be taught minimally. But if the students fail to show these, then values integration in all subject should be strongly administered.
