Importance of ICT in the Teaching-Learning Process
There have been a number of initiatives of the Department of Education to promote and develop the use of information and communications technology(ICT) in teaching and learning to address the 21st century learners.Evidence is growing that ICT resourcing in schools can have a positive effect on young children’s attainment in the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency [Becta], 2001, 2002), and even in other subject areas.
According to Wall (2005), the visual helps understand the complicated things’. Pupil describe how different elements of software and hardware can motivate, aid concentration, and keep their attention. Pupil’s comments are positive, and the use of interactive whiteboards can facilitate and initiate learning.
It is important that teachers will identify ways that technology can be used to improve the learning environment for teachers and students at our school level in order to create learning environments where students are actively engaged in the learning process.
The level of participation in class discussion allows a wider range of participation by student, leading to an increased state of engagement, and an enhanced learning environment (Bryant and Hunton, 2000).
Educators should have some initiative to address these 21st century learners. The collaboration among school administrators, teachers, stakeholders, pupils and parents are vital for the realization of the departments’ goals.
