HOLDING A VISION

- HELEN G. JUGUILON

As school heads, we hold on to our vision or the image we want our school to become, one that is worth striving for. It is a dream, an inner desire that sustains our passion for progress and development. Diligently, we work hard in performing our duties and responsibilities, to inspire and to achieve goals that we aspire for.

By envisioning, we make our initial step in fulfilling the mandate stipulated in RA 9155, a school head is an instructional leader and an administrative manager. We realize our visions through competence in utilizing our knowledge, skills and experiences in dealing and accomplishing our tasks with our stakeholders and in maintaining good working relationship with them. Everything is done for the best interest of the Filipino children, for this is their way to become true citizens endowed with life skills, tools of communication and positive values.

Stewards of education as they call us, we hone Filipino people, which serve as our partners in delivering quality education. The importance of the role of head teachers in making schools better for teaching and learning has been fairly established by a wide array of studies all over the world. “Scratch the surface of an excellent school”, said Leithwood and Riehl (2003), “and you are likely to find an excellent principal, Peer into a failing school, and you will find weak leadership”.

Leadership guides people to take the right path for goal fulfillment. Effective leaders strive hard in investing their lives in order to make the world of the youth happier. We want all school children to have a brighter future that is to be an asset to the society.

A high vision, no matter how difficult, through perseverance, dedication and teamwork can be accomplished by an effective and committed servant leader.
