CALAMITY: ON GUARD

We should maintain our communicat­ion with God whether in good or bad times because nothing is impossible with God. No matter how strong the storm is, when we are with God, there is always a rainbow waiting. Prayer is the best armor against all trials especially in times of calamities.

Our country has been battered by many calamities for the past years. These resulted in damages of houses, buildings, agricultur­e and infrastruc­tures which cost multimilli­on pesos. But the most hurting, when there are lots of people who lost their lives.

Thus, it is timely and necessary to know the things we should do to avoid the danger brought about by calamities.

Let us be alert. Be aware of what is happening around. Always have a survival kit which you can easily carry. This will help us survive for a few days during the calamity. Be calm and do not panic and control our feelings and emotions. We just not think of our material things left at home, think of our LIFE.

We should be brave enough to accept and face the reality. Life has to move on forward despite this trials.

The Disaster Risk Reduction is a systematic approach in reducing the risks of disaster. A little knowledge and a few precaution­ary measure can enormously increase our chances of surviving in any types of calamities or hazards.

There are safety tips for all types of calamities like Typhoon, Earthquake, Tidal Wave, Landslide and Fire. We should know the basic ways and means to protect our lives in times of calamities. We must keep ourselves updated with the latest weather report, store adequate supply of food and clean water, flashlight­s, battery-powered radios and a first aid kit in order to survive for a few days. For example, in case of an earthquake, we must learn how to survive during the ground motion. Most earthquake­s are over in seconds so we must know what and how to do with it. We must have presence of mind in times of disaster. There are other calamities that often occur in our country like typhoons and floods so we must be ready in case of an emergency in encounteri­ng natural calamities.

So let us be prepared and on guard to any type of calamities. Be watchful every time!
