THE POWER OF MULTIMEDIA INTEGRATION TOWARDS CLASSROOM TEACHING

-

JULIET D. SANTOS

Nowadays, we are surrounded by massive digital information and images brought about by technology. Learners are accustomed to receiving and processing information through multi- sensory sources. Thus, they have grown up in a technological worldwide with televisions, electronic toys and gadgets, videogames, cellular phones and many more. As a teacher, it is not an easy task to implement the use of technology in education as an additional tool to further enhance language learning and competency as well as to equip students with a critical skill due to the insufficient funds or allotment from the government.

However, since the integration of multimedia in classroom teaching proves to bring education into one step higher from the traditional technique to a more interactive and interesting teaching and learning process, educators are obliged to embrace the introduction of technology in classroom teaching. The power of multimedia lies in the fact that it is multi-sensory and stimulating the many senses of the listeners.

The use of multimedia in industries has been extensive, as it has been effective in increasing productivity and retention rates, where research has shown that people remember 20% of what they see, 40% of what they see and hear, but about 75% of what they see and hear and do simultaneously.
