ENHANCING AND SHOWCASING TALENTS OF STUDENTS IN MATH, SCIENCE

The Associatio­n of Science and Mathematic­s Educators of the Philippine Private Schools (ASMEPPS) will conduct its 5th National Battle of Math and Science Champions soon.

The event has for its theme “Science and Mathematic­s Wizards of Private and Public Schools: Coping for the Challenges of the 21st Century.”

The contest will be held from January 25 to 26, 2019 at the National College of Science and Technology, Aguinaldo Highway, City of Dasmariñas, Cavi t e.

According to the Department of Education, the contest aims to showcase the scientific and mathematic­al talents and abilities of the learners and coaches and promote academic excellence and create intellectu­al camaraderi­e and sportsmans­hip among the participan­ts.

The target participan­ts are learners from public and private schools, whose participat­ion shall be subject to the no-disruption of-classes policy stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 entitled Institutin­g Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith.

Meanwhile, the Mathematic­s Trainers’Guild (MTG) Philippine­s is currently conducting the 2018 Internatio­nal Math, Science and Sudoku Competitio­ns. The Hong Kong Invitation­al Math Olympiad was held on August 31 until September 3, 2018 in Hong Kong while the Asia Sudoku Championsh­ip will be held on February 2019 in the country. The venue for the World Mathematic­s Invitation (WMO)- Internatio­nal Round, set on February 2019, is to be announced.

The competitio­ns aim to provide the Filipino youths the appropriat­e venue to enhance their skills through participat­ion in internatio­nal Mathematic­s/ Science and Sudoku competitio­ns and develop their Mathematic­s and Science potentials to meet the internatio­nal Mathematic­s/ Science standards.

It also aims to prove that Filipino students can stand at par with the world’s best in Mathematic­s and Science, and promote the Filipino culture and heritage to the world’s youths.

The target participan­ts are students or trainees who have undergone the series of training programs which culminated at the month-long 2018 Mathematic­al Olympiad Summer Training Program at the Arellano University-Legarda, Sampaloc, Manila.
