ENHANCING AND SHOWCASING TALENTS OF STUDENTS IN MATH, SCIENCE

The Association of Science and Mathematics Educators of the Philippine Private Schools (ASMEPPS) will conduct its 5th National Battle of Math and Science Champions soon.
The event has for its theme “Science and Mathematics Wizards of Private and Public Schools: Coping for the Challenges of the 21st Century.”
The contest will be held from January 25 to 26, 2019 at the National College of Science and Technology, Aguinaldo Highway, City of Dasmariñas, Cavi t e.
According to the Department of Education, the contest aims to showcase the scientific and mathematical talents and abilities of the learners and coaches and promote academic excellence and create intellectual camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants.
The target participants are learners from public and private schools, whose participation shall be subject to the no-disruption of-classes policy stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 entitled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith.
Meanwhile, the Mathematics Trainers’Guild (MTG) Philippines is currently conducting the 2018 International Math, Science and Sudoku Competitions. The Hong Kong Invitational Math Olympiad was held on August 31 until September 3, 2018 in Hong Kong while the Asia Sudoku Championship will be held on February 2019 in the country. The venue for the World Mathematics Invitation (WMO)- International Round, set on February 2019, is to be announced.
The competitions aim to provide the Filipino youths the appropriate venue to enhance their skills through participation in international Mathematics/ Science and Sudoku competitions and develop their Mathematics and Science potentials to meet the international Mathematics/ Science standards.
It also aims to prove that Filipino students can stand at par with the world’s best in Mathematics and Science, and promote the Filipino culture and heritage to the world’s youths.
The target participants are students or trainees who have undergone the series of training programs which culminated at the month-long 2018 Mathematical Olympiad Summer Training Program at the Arellano University-Legarda, Sampaloc, Manila.
