RONA D. REYES
Kids love games. Pupils nowadays like to play, to move, to dance, to sing, and to actively participate in classroom activities. They have a short attention span which triggers boredom. How can we solve this problem in the classroom?
Teachers should have first the strong will to make the learners engage during the classroom interaction. A careful preparation of the tasks inside the classroom is the solution to have an actively engaged classroom. There must be a proper sequence of the activities to maximize the time.
Inside the classroom, games are the tools of the teachers to attract them and sustain their interest. When they play, it stimulates their desire and eagerness to listen to their teacher and mingle with their classmate. They enjoy each moment while they are learning in the cl assr oom.
However, it is a paramount consideration that games must be educational. It should be anchored to the lessons and the competencies that each pupil need to master based on the curriculum guide. The teacher should carefully scrutinize each activity and match it with topics listed on the learners’material.
Lastly, games should be executed in a place which is safe, childfriendly, conducive, and gender sensitive. Each pupil should be given equal opportunity to play and to be involved.
With these complex requirement, only those who are dedicated can shout Ready! Set! Game!
