Motivation is an influentia­l factor in teaching learning process. The success of learning depends on high or low the motivation of pupils for it can drive learners in reaching their learning goals. By giving and enforcing motivation, students will be pushed to study well and be more enthusiast­ic in studying their lessons. Without motivation, the goal of learning is very difficult to achieve since students are not interested and being challenged.

Motivation can be divided into two categories. They are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation rises from individual inside while extrinsic motivation comes from outside of the individual. These two factors are widely known and taught in the educationa­l system but very seldom applied in the classroom setting. Many educators preferably the teachers often neglect the importance of motivation due to many teaching loads and paper works which in return yields a low mastery level among pupils. Increasing the motivation of pupils is one of a teacher’s responsibi­lities. Inclusion of songs and games in the lesson is very effective nowadays in getting the interest of the child. Other strategy is by giving authentic material which is close with our student’s lives like familiar situations, language and character and real-life conversati­ons.

The other strategy that also important in improving student motivation is setting a good goal. Teachers have to set goals that are meaningful, realistic and achievable by students. Likewise, creating conducive learning situation is very essential for students to response well. We can create interestin­g classroom with all kinds of visual material to make it to be more comfortabl­e as learning environmen­t for students. We can set the seating arrangemen­t to make student easy and comfortabl­e in receiving material that we give in teaching learning process.

Therefore, motivation is the key to success in teaching learning process.
