DILG holds regional federalism convention

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recently held a regional federalism convention for government officials at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here.

Mayor Edwin Santiago attended the roadshow and addressed the officials, stressing that the national government has always been in search for better plans that will contribute to the progress of the country.

“That’s one thing I’m happy about our government, that they are looking for ways to make life easier in the country. Like for example, this proposed federalism through this convention provides us what we need to know about is consequenc­es,” Santiago said.

Federalism is defined as a system of government in which power is divided between a national (federal) government and various regional government­s, with two main parts— state and national.

Meanwhile, Santiago also warmly welcomed all delegates, citing that the convention is just one way to spur progress and unity in the region.

“Central Luzon has the lowest inflation rate in all regions of the country. This is the result of our joint efforts towards progress, where in good governance and meeting the needs of the community exist,” expressed San t i ago.

Some 3,000 representa­tives including local chief executives, barangay and Sanggunian­g Kabataan officials, national government agencies, and civil society organizat i ons.

Discussion­s during the convention included the overview of the federal constituti­on and the structure of the federal government; social and political reforms a: bill of rights, obligation­s, and social justice; and transition­s, amendments, and updates on the recommenda­tions of the constituti­onal committee.
