UA ECE students win 2nd runner up in regional quiz show
The
University of the Assumption (UA) Electronics Engineering students bagged the second runner-up title during the recently concluded Regional Inter-scholastic Quiz Show held in Tarlac City.
Fifth year students Mikko Caguiat, Jose Angelo Dimacali, Kenneth Sahm Gabasa, Jaime Francis Rivera, Joshua Ian Valerio, and fourth year student Khrys Cielo Marie Sunga competed against contestants coming from different colleges and universities in Region 3.
According to Engr. Katrina C. Pekson, the team’s teachercoach, “the quiz is patterned after the ECE board exam, covering four subjects: Mathematics, Electronics, General Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Electronic Systems and Technologies. Each subject has four objective type questions and two problem solving.” She added that students excelled most in the problem solving category.
The Regional Inter-Scholastic Quiz Show is an annual event for the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines. The elimination round is hosted by the regional student chapters across the country.
The top two schools to win the elimination round will qualify for the Annual Electronics Engineering Inter-Scholastic Quiz Show. This year’s theme is Magnus: Battle of the Greatest. The Holy Angel University School of Education (HAU-SED), in celebration of the UN International Day of Peace recently held its 6th Regional Peace and Human Rights Lecture Forum.
The event was led by UNESCO Peace Prize awardee Dr. SweeHin Toh and former Chair of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Dr. Felipe de Leon Jr. Joining them was speaker and publication writer for IBON Foundation Inc. Ninia dela Cruz.
Aside from lecture forum, a peace art exhibit, interschool poster and essay writing contests, and outreach activity for the Aeta students of Camias Senior High School were also conducted.
HAU-SED has been organizing peace and human rights lecture-forum with the aim to gather school administrators, student leaders, teachers of Christian Living and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP) of both public and private sectors in basic education and higher education institutions in Region III.
It has begun integrating peace education in its undergraduate teacher education curricula in 2012.
