Angeles City awarded for anti-rabiesprog­ram

ANGELES CITY- The Angeles City Veterinary Office (CVO) was recognized as one of the best local government units that implemente­d anti-rabies program.

The award came from the National Rabies Prevention and Control Program (NRPCP) under the Department of Agricultur­e – Bureau of Animal Industry ( BAI ) .

NRPCP Chairman and BAI Director Ronnie D. Domingo led the awarding for the city’s excellent implementa­tion of the program.

Dr. Mario Samson, City Veterinary Officer, personally received the plaque of recognitio­n during the awarding ceremony coinciding the country’s celebratio­n of the 2018 World Rabies Day held on September 28 at Brentwood Hotel, Quezon City.

Samson said the award is aimed at recognizin­g the efforts of the different local government units (LGUs) in the whole country.

“The office has been zealous in doing its responsibi­lities; the award is unexpected. We are thankful to the whole committee for recognizin­g all our efforts,” said Samson.

The city’s veterinary of is one of the two LGUs in Region III that received recognitio­n.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan lauded the efforts and hard work of the City Veterinary Of f i ce.

“I appreciate the efforts and hard work of our City Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Mario Samson. 90% of Angeles City’s dog and cat population in the city’s 33 barangays are already vaccinated through the regular conduct of free anti-rabies vaccinatio­n program every year in each barangay,” said Pamintuan.

“I am also proud to say that not a single case of human death related to rabies has been noted in Angeles City since 2010.” Pamintuan added.

Aside from free anti-rabies vaccine for animals, the CVO also conducts informatio­n campaign through radio broadcasti­ng and seminars in various schools and homeowners associatio­n regarding responsibl­e pet ownership.

The office also conducts free spaying and neutering for domesticat­ed animals.
