Camarines Sur lawmaker escapes ambush try

-

CAMARINES Sur First District Representative Rolando Andaya escaped an ambush try right after filing his certificate of candidacy for governor of the said province on Tuesday, October 16.

The Bicol Region Police Office reported that Andaya’s security escort, retired police Chief Inspector Samuel Alaforte, and Lupi town Mayor Roberto Matamorosa accosted Ray John Musa, who allegedly pulled out his gun when he sighted Andaya in front of the local Commission on Elections office.

Musa, one of the security guards working in the Provincial Capitol, reportedly lost control of the gun, which fell on the ground.

Recovered from him was a .38 caliber TM Smith & Wesson revolver loaded with five bullets and without a serial number.

Bicol Police Regional Director Arnel Escobal said Alaforte and Matamorosa carried out a citizen's arrest since police were not available when the incident happened.

Musa was charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.

Andaya believes that his political enemies were the ones behind the slay try.

"The truth will eventually come out and we will find out who masterminded it. He will not do it if no one is ordering it," Andaya said.

"If they think I will be cowed, they're wrong. I will push through with my candidacy," he added. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
