THE PROS AND CONS OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS

Much has been said about wearing school uniforms in order to discipline students better and so on. Some students and parents are okay with school uniforms while other students and parents are not. Depending on the school, school uniforms come in different styles and colors. In private schools, they have a more formal style wherein boys wear neck ties while as girls wear skirts and polos. On the other hand, public schools usually have a more comfortable and affordable set of school uniforms. Students may be seen wearing jeans and polos with their school colors. With all that being said about school uniforms, they also have their pros and cons which will be discussed in this article.

One of the pros of wearing school uniforms is that it decreases violence. Since students wear the same school uniform, they are less tempted to get involved in any type of violence. Also, school uniforms increase the security of the students, teachers and staffs of the school. It will be easier for them to distinguish who isn’t part of the school and who may be a threat to them. In addition, school uniforms give the students a sense of unity with one another. It gives them pride to be seen representing their school. On the other hand, one of the cons of school uniforms is that it can be costly for the parents.

This depends on how many times a school makes changes to the uniforms and the parents end up buying the newer ones. Also, wearing school uniforms does not allow students to express who they really are since they all have to wear the same thing. They somehow lose their individuality. The debate of wearing school uniforms or not has been talked about for some time now. It can not really be seen whether there are more pros than cons of wearing school uniforms. Until then, it is still how the parents discipline their children at home and raising them to be the person they ought to be and not depending on the pros and cons of school uniforms.
