BRIGADA ESKWELA EVERYDAY

- JUANITO L. RIGOR

It may be wishful thinking but also a prayer and call that Brigada Eskwela be done every day in schools, and not just annually before classes start.

That is because Brigada Eskwela unites all stakeholders and whole communities across the country. AS Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones noted, “In Brigada, bayanihan is very much alive through helping hands, and unrelenting commitment to serve and improve the quality of education.”

True. Every year, stakeholders work to ensure that schools nationwide are ready and safe for learners before classes open, and every year, the spirit of volunteerism in motion as Filipinos from all walks of life make quality basic education all the more possible for our learners through Brigada Eskwela is witnessed.

Communities and stakeholders have an important role in the preparation of schools through in-kind donations instead of cash like construction materials such as hollow blocks, cement, paint, and tools for the repair of schools through the Adopt-a-School program. School supplies for learners, teachers, and health and hygiene kits may also be donated.

Brigada Eskwela calls on everyone’s selfless participation to achieve so much for learners.

Brigada Eskwela is a community-based initiative that groups together manpower, technical, material, financial, time, and methods to assist schools get ready for the opening of classes.

People volunteer to help schools in minor repairs, beautification, electrical rewiring, or provide water, sanitation, hygiene kits, safety kits, learners, and teachers kits, among others.

With all these centering on Brigada Eskwela and the spirit of bayanihan soaring high each time, we hope that it happens every day.
