BE SELF-SUFFICIENT, GLOBALLY COMPETENT
The Department of Education is calling on students to appreciate the importance of self-sufficiency, global competitiveness, readiness for change, and continuous learni ng.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said students should be prepared for change, especially that we now live in a world which is facing economic challenges – including the Philippines – and that this requires them to be ready for change.
When our students go out into the world, the world is not like the school, and is not as gentle or as kind as teachers.
The world, Briones said, is not as complete in knowledge or intelligence as an educational institution, so students have to be prepared for change.
She also pointed out that in the near future while students may not immediately land their desired job, readiness for change will prepare them for what lies ahead.
Briones likewise reiterated the complementarity between public and private educational institutions, and called on students to also consider teaching in private schools in the future.
Briones said that because private schools have a contribution to make to education, whether they are non-sectarian or religious, they have specific contributions. Their faculties are equally skilled, are equally trained to impart education to our learners.
