BECOMING A TRUSTWORTHY LEADER

-

Trust is a dynamic and powerful word. For me, when someone trusted you that person believes that you are true, reliable, understanding, sincere and truthful. When you are trusted, you are expected to do your job with utmost integrity, commitment and excellence because you do not want to disappoint or lose the trust of the person.

Trust matters to successful leaders and their schools. School leaders – administrators and teachers play a vital role to be agents of trust in their own ways. School leaders should create and manifest a culture of trust among students and pupils, parents and stakeholders and in the community.

His functions which includes visioning, modelling, coaching, managing and mediating should be founded in the facets of trust such as benevolence, honesty, openness, reliability and competence so as to create and build a trusting work environment which leads to more effective supervision that helps contribute to excellent pupil’s performance, teacher’s satisfaction and motivation, and parent’s active involvement in the school programs and projects for the achievement of the school’s success.

As a public servant, it is not easy becoming a trustworthy leader. You have to model or “walk the talk”. How can I become a trustworthy leader? I can be one in my own ways like being punctual and honest in filling up my DTR and SALN, being fair in giving grades to my pupils, teaching efficiently even without our school head, treating everyone in school with care, respect and love, and being a good steward to God’s special creation – innocent and young pupils whom He entrusted to me.

This Science called Mathematics is very important in our day to day living, in our jobs, in our industry, in our economy and in all aspects of our lives. So it is very much important to teach Mathematics to children at a very young age so they get the aptitude for numbers.

The late professors Stephen Hawking and john Nash both fellows at the Princeton University, learned how to do Math before how to play. If we can teach Math to our children at a very young age, then we have future accountants, engineers and architects in our home. If we have to dream big, our children can pass the gravelling UPCAT (UP College Admission Test), where proficiency in Mathematics is highly required. Or may be in the PMA (Philippine Military Academy), or may be study in foreign schools like the United States Naval Academy or the United States Air Force Academy where students learn under pressure to achieve accuracy and proficiency in Mathematics.
