DIFFERENT STUDENTS, DIFFERENT GOALS
Students life! I am sure there are more scenarios that the school has bombarded to us. It is quite relatable for most of the people out there. You’ve been thinking why do I need to suffer from this and spend most of my life studying? You are the only one who knows the answer.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” A question being asked over and over again to the students, whether it is the first day or not. Quite tiring. It has a point since after studying for a very long time; you need to find a job so you must be ready. But, I would like to rephrase the question. Let’s change it to “Why do you study?” For me, it is much more appropriate. An individual should have a will. He/she must be mindful about the true essence of what he/she is doing. It is prerequisite.
Different students, different goals; thus, different reasons why they need to pursue studying. It can be self-realization or someone is giving them the will to study. People are often thinking that if they study, they can be wealthy and have a brighter future ahead. I am not going to disagree with this. After graduating, you can fly with colors and soar high. Graduating is a proof that you are no longer a student. You are now waking up as an employee or a worker—instead of getting grades, you are now earning your salary; from presenting in front of a class to proposing in front of the board members of the company; no more teachers but the bosses say hello. Who knows what your work will be? But one thing for sure, students are working harder to have a better life for their selves.
Have you ever heard of rags-to-riches story? I can say that aside from determination and hard work, some of the protagonists of these stories are helped by education. Some people study harder to give their family a prosperous life. In the Philippines, Education is a way-out ticket in poverty. If you don’t have it, it is hard for you to rise. Are you a protagonist of this story? Work harder to end up with the ‘riches’ part!
Aside from climbing up in the society and living as a well-off individual, various students are looking in a deeper realization. And I think despite of having the utmost desire in living a comfortable life, let’s motivate ourselves in studying because of a much more important reason. Education is preparing each and everyone in the reality of life. The knowledge that we gain will help us to live prosperously but the values will give us strength in standing in reality. This was my motivation when I was a student. I would like to learn how to cope up with several circumstances. I would like to improve my character and be a better person. Aside from feeding myself with mathematical formula and scientific terms, I am learning how I will stand when I am an adult.
This might be short and unclear for all of you but let’s not waste our education. It might be hard to find a will studying because of stress but always think of your motivation. This will help you to stand and strive.
