EDUCATION: IGNORANCE ELIMINATOR
CATHERINE S. ANICETE
“Education does not change the world. Education changes the people. People change the world.” A very catchy and truthful quote by Paulo Reglus Neves Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher who was a leading advocate of critical pedagogy. The first time I read this quote, I suddenly felt the gushto assess it while reminiscing other quotes that are related to education. With the personal belief that not all students will and can go to college but every Filipino citizen has the right to education, there should be a compelling force that would materialize this. An effective way to achieve this is the cooperation of all the members of the community which is being carried out by the educational system. As an Educator, it saddens me to see that there are still youngsters roaming around the streets and not getting proper education but insteadasking for alms frompassersby. These youngsters will be and should bea part of the nation’s progress in the coming future that is why there are also private institutions that help people with special needs in education to avail of this right. It’s an extra work but there are concerned individuals and groupsthat don’t just want to sit around and do nothing. They are doing their part to help eliminate ignorance by educating individuals, preparing them for a brighter future ahead of them and eventually become productive citizens or our country. With that, we will all be secured of a common success which is not only for a single group but for the greater good of all. And I still strongly agree that education is one of the key factors to success not only talking about formal education but informal education as well. Not only seen in the four corners of the classroom in a school set-up but in any situation or place that would help a person undergo a training that will help him or her to gain knowledge and skills including the holistic development of an individual.
