TEACHING AFFECTS ETERNITY

- JOMAR DIZON DELA CRUZ

“Sir ………… ..” out of nowhere I heard someone calling me from afar. When I noticed the person who was calling me, he was my former student. A conversation had started by exchanging present situations. “It’s okay, or more correctly, I am okay.” How about you? I asked him. “Sir I am now a licensed teacher like you,” he replied.

I was so glad when I heard my former student saying that he is already a teacher like me. I could still remember when he was still my student way back when he was in high school. He could not even catch up with our lessons. But, I didn’t stop encouraging him to be at his best and do his best. I even shared him my personal experience when I was in college. That I really did everything just to finish my studies. He was motivated and planned to finish his studies as well. He said to me that he also wanted to become a teacher like me.

What a rewarding part for me as a teacher to see my former students become successful in life. As if I am also became successful in a way. I can proudly say that a moment in the lives of my students I did something for them. A moment in their lives, I contributed something which help them to become what they are today. Indeed, teaching affects eternity. Behind a successful story of a student lies a persevere teacher who really inspires him to achieve his dream. It is undoubtedly very rewarding to be a teacher! Just like the quotation of Henry Adams “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” And that influence will be the motivating push of students to pursue chasing their dreams and make them turn into realities. I cannot even wait to see all of my students as successful in their chosen endeavours in life.
