Cops issue safety tips
ITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Police Regional in Region III (PRO-3) has issued some crime prevention tips during the observance of All Saints’Day and All Souls’Day.
Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus, director of PRO-3, said the police force is on full alert status to ensure public safety.
The police official advised the people, especially those leaving their houses during the holidays, to take precautionary measures to secure themselves and their properties.
Corpus said residents should double check if their doors and windows are locked before leaving their residence.
“Be sure all possible paths to the house are blocked and if possible, install a burglar alarm to alert the neighbors if someone breaks in,” he sai d.
Corpus also advised the public not to leave notes outside the house indicating that they will be away for a period of time.
He also advised the turning of appliances like radios on to give the impression that someone is still inside the house and ask a trusted neighbor to watch over your residence.
“Before leaving the house, ensure no candle, gas stove or leaking faucet or plugged appliance left unattended, and secure all items such as clothes being hung out to dry,” he added.
Corpus also reminded people visiting cemeteries to be aware of prohibited items such as deadly and bladed weapons, loud speakers, and gambling paraphernalia to avoid inconvenience.
He also advised the public not to leave their kids unattended in crowded places.
Children should possess name tags for identification in case they are lost, according to Corpus.
Important belongings such as bags, wallets and electronic devices must not also be left unattended, the police official said.
He noted that police assistance centers and first aid stations will be put up at the entry and exit points of public and private cemeteries.
Corpus also said that motorists should check the roadworthiness of their vehicles.
“Make sure to also bring all pertinent documents for the vehicle, including the Insurance Certificate and always ensure control of the vehicle, including the locked doors, and avoid one handed-driving and avoid driving while drunk, sleepy or using of mobile phones,” he said.
Corpus also urged commuters not to wear jewelry or bring big amounts of money and display mobile phones and valuables.
“If you see something suspicious, may it be package or fellow individual, immediately alert the policemen in the vicinity for immediate response,” he said.
