PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
MILAGROS S. UMALI
The Department of Education (DepEd) has been continuously forging partnerships with various stakeholders, sectors, groups and organizations to sustain the quality of education being offered by educational institutions, particularly public schools.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones underscored anew the importance of cooperation and partnership with local government unit (LGU) and the community in bringing to the ground the various programs and projects of the Department.
The DepEd secretary shared that “with LGUs as our partners in promoting quality basic education for all, surely the endeavor will not fail. Our beautiful plans and their moral and financial support will make difference, more than what we expect to happen.”
LGUs she furthered, are not competitors nor threats to DepEd and schools but are more than just friends and partners thinking the way the academe thinks and want only the best for their constituents, learners, teachers and school heads included.
The Secretary said that one of the most important secrets to success for a school and a school system is cooperation – that is the support coming from the LGU and the community. She added that the LGUs in the provinces, cities and municipalities in the country have not failed in helping DepEd in the provision of quality basic education for our learners.
Since LGUs have been providing school buildings and other facilities to schools, she reiterated that the assistance of the teachers, school heads, and other partners in maintaining the newly constructed building is needed as their contribution and gratitude to the LGUs that provided great support to education.
Secretary Briones said the scenario is every year, teachers face continuous demands for more classrooms to cater to new learners.
The Secretary even hopes that they will take good care of the different school building and facilities and treat them as their own homes.
She emphasized that when all of us work together, whatever our histories and backgrounds are, our goal must be to deliver the basic education our learners truly deserve – that is a legacy that we can give to them.
