Partylist system: an aberration

-

HAVE WRITTEN against the existence of partylist sys

and its representatives in Congress as they do not really represent members of marginalized sectors or groups that are not specifically represented for their best interests in the august body.

Some individuals want to enter Congress via the backdoor, so to speak and earn money, perks and benefits they truly do not deserve.

Now comes a timely column by Betsy Tiglao in the Manila Bulletin which states that the partylist system is out of control and, therefore, should be abolished.

It furthered: Like Frankenstein's monster, the partylist system has turned into an abomination so far removed from what its creators in the 1987 Constitution has envisioned.

It is utterly despicable that even billionaires wrongly "represent" the sentiments of the poor and downtrodden.

The biggest curse imposed on us by the partylist system are the communist-allied groups in Congress, writes Betsy Tiglao. And now, we are faced with the threat that the Communists will co-exist with us for a sustained period of time, and all because we allowed them to occupy seats in Congress due to this silly law.

The partylist system allowed by law should merit a long, hard look and scrutiny by the voters: they only misrepresent, instead of represent, interests needing Congress' help. It is an aberration, if not an abomination, concludes Ms. Tiglao. We should all agree!

The Iron Man of Barangay Poblacion. I had a brief chat with councilorable ELMER "TOTONG" S. MENDIOLA last week and it turned out to be an interesting one as he told me his plans if ever he wins a seat in the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Mabalacat City.

Chairman Totong envisions a widely-lit Mabalacat City, clean and orderly as he had done in Barangay Poblacion. This way, he says, criminality would be deterred and residents will feel safe, in their homes and in the streets.

He has done a great cleaning job in Barangay Poblacion and he wants to do it, city-wide. There is nothing more pleasing to the eye, he says.

His better half, Marlene M. Mendiola, 47, would have celebrated her birthday on November 4, 2018. He says she is supportive of his plans and activities towards his winning a seat in the SP.

Elmer "Totong" Mendiola, or totoong serbisyo, runs under Mayor Crisostomo C. Garbo's ticket.
