FACTORS THAT MAY AFFECT THE LEARNING PROCESS

The act or process of acquiring knowledge or skills is learning. Learning is an experience that occurs inside the learner with the discovery of the personal meaning and importance of ideas. It is a sequence of collaborative and cooperative process and an evolutionary process that never ends. It is a process that is both intellectual and emotional.
Many factors can facilitate or hinder a student from learning and these should be made aware of by the teacher. Motivation is the desire to learn. This influences how quickly a person learns and how much a person wants to learn. Readiness to learn is when the person shows motivation. He is showing the desire or willingness to learn when he is exhibiting motivation. Motivation drives a person to do what he wants to do. Active participation becomes more meaningful and interesting to the student if he participates in the discussion because he will be able to understand. The student will learn faster and retention is better. Relevance of the topic being discussed should be interesting to the student. The student should be able to connect or relate to the topic so that the learner won’t get bored with the subject. Materials should be organized and proceeds from simple to complex. Repetition of key concepts will make students remember easily of what is being discuss. It will not be forgotten that easily because it is being repeated. People retain information when the time is short. Discussing a topic in a short time can be retained faster than a topic that takes a long period of time because a topic tends to get lost by the student. An environment without distraction and providing physical and psychological comfort to the students is important. It has to have adequate lightning that is free from glare, comfortable temperature and good ventilation. A hot and stuffy room tends to make students drowsy and distracts concentration.— oOo—
