TSU campaigns to eliminate VAW

-

Tarlac State University-Center for Gender and Development (TSU-CGAD) urges residents of the province to join the campaign in eliminating Violence Against Women (VAW).

“VAW is a national issue and concern that we need to put an emphasis so that people will be aware on how they can be part of eliminating it,” TSU-CGAD Director Rita Pulmano said.

The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 to raise awareness among all stakeholders that VAW is a public issue of national concern.

It supports the Philippine Government’s goal to protect the human rights of women and its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence.

Pulmano emphasized that the theme of the annual observance is “VAW Free Community starts with Me” which calls for the participation of everyone from the government, private sector and even ordinary citizens.

“We also urge barangay officials to make VAW desks functional in their respective areas so that people would know where to go and ask for help when it comes to violence situation or incident,” she added.

Furthermore, Pulmano added that various activities were being conducted in TSU to strengthen the campaign which include provision of information education and communication materials cascaded to all the colleges and freedom wall wherein students are free to express their insights and interests on how to eliminate VAW.

“Apart from this, we keep on providing internal and external trainings and seminars. And also, we include in the curriculum of the students some VAW concepts and how to promote equality and women empowerment,” Pulmano explained. (PIA 3)
