Don't rely on surveys in choosing poll bets: Comelec

- (PNA)

Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday said voters should not solely rely on surveys in selecting candidates in the May 13 mid-term polls.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez noted that survey results do not reflect the real personalities of those who are seeking public office.

“Surveys offer only a snapshot of a candidate’s popularity. It does not reveal anything substantial about the candidate’s qualifications, character, or potential as an elected government official,” he said in an interview.

"In a very real sense, choosing on a candidate on the basis of survey ranking alone is indistinguishable from judging a book by its cover,” the poll body official added.

Jimenez encouraged the public to look for more criteria in choosing whom to vote for in the upcoming polls.

“Clearly, there are better ways of selecting leadership: proven track record, stated positions (or the lack thereof) on critical issues, the voter’s personal knowledge,” he said.

“These and other inputs to the voters’ decision making process should not be ignored, simply because it is so much easier to just jump on the bandwagon,” Jimenez added.

The session will be led by John Todorovic, an executive coach, who will share knowledge on coaching, mentoring, how to resolve conflicts, delegation, and feedback and feedforward.

The chamber is inviting supervisors, mid-level managers, and human resource practitioners to attend the session, which will start at 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

The pre-registration rate (on or before March 28) is P1,000 while the on-site registration rate is P1,200.

The session is also made possible through the chamber's partnership with the RLX Business Solutions.
