Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education is the method in pedagogy that use information and communications technology to enhance, and optimize the delivery of information in the 21st century pedagogy thinking and styles.
The teachers being a primary source of information and knowledge inside the classroom met a paradigm of shift in terms of the delivery of their lessons. Blackboards and chalks are out, technology is in. In this case, effective inculcation on knowledge among students becomes a more diverse and challenging on the part of the teacher.
Worldwide research has shown that ICT can lead to an improved student learning and better teaching methods. In the report made by the National Institute of Multimedia Education in Japan, the institute claimed that use of ICT in education and in curriculum has a significant and positive impact on students achievements. The results specifically showed that the students who are continuously exposed to technology through education has better knowledge, presentation skills, innovative capabilities, and are ready to take more efforts into learning as compared to their counterparts.
Different policy makers and even curriculum experts are now on the verge of providing innovative teaching strategies and different methods in integrating technology to teaching: Teaching and technology becomes inseparable.
As a teacher of the 21st century, this change posts a challenge to every educator. As the demand for more up to date, technology based teaching and globally competitive competencies, the notion to upgrade one’s knowledge becomes a norm and standard. The teacher therefore as not be afraid but instead embrace these changes to better serve every student.
